Reviews & Awards

Satay It Isn’t (Ferruzza)
Lulu’s is such a unique addition to the downtown restaurant scene that you want to succeed at all costs. And some of the dishes are so good that the interminable wait between an appetizer and dinner, or the bizarre a mount of time it takes to get a bowl of soup, might not seem so irritating. Satay, the Thai version of a classic Southeast Asian delicacy is skewers of grilled meat and shrimp, or Lulu’s, marinated tofu. Lulu’s satay comes in individual portions or on a Satay Plate, where a mount of jasmine rice comes topped with mini-skewers of grilled chicken, shrimp, and beef, served with microscopic portion of cucumber sauce syrupy, spicy peanut sauce.

Gastronomical Relish By Mike & Dave
Dave: The appetizers were great…if you are getting a bit jaded with Chinese food, but are still a big fan of Oriental food. Thai is just different enough to really hit the spot.
Mike: We came back several times so we could try a couple of different meals. One dish worth having is the Pad Thai, which is thin rice noodle stir-fried in a blend of fresh chili seasoning along with egg, tofu, sprouts, onions and peanuts. It came out very well, and it is good to share with friends as an appetizer, or it can fill one person up as a complete meal.

Café Gives Thai Twist To Noodles By Anne Tangeman ( Lawrence Journal-World Writer)
Lulu’s is Thai made with a little American thrown in. But the food is good, flavorful and a welcome change for average downtown burger, pizza and sandwich fare. In addition to various platters, Lulu’s offers vermicelli or egg noodle blows served “wet” without or dry. You can choose from a vegetarian mushroom-base both or a chicken or roast pork broth. Broth styles come with green onions, peanuts, sprouts and fresh cilantro.

Lunch Bites
Sine several menu items are exceptionally spicy, be sure to ask your server if your are looking to either enjoy or avoid “hated” experience. Entrees are served with a tray of condiments – garlic, jalapenos, fresh chilies, chili garlic sauce and dried hot pepper flakes – so dinners can season as they wish. Thai iced coffee, Thai iced tea, plus hot oolong, jasmine and green tea, and soft drinks are available

Area Restaurants offer Vegetarian-friendly Meny By Nathan Willis (Kansan Correspondent)
Lisa Mayakula, the owner of Lulu’s, said, the restaurant was unique. “Things have gone really well so farm.” she said. “My father is Thai, so they’re all my family recipes, mostly from my dad. Everything we cook here we prepare from scratch. Mayakula said Thai food was similar to other oriental food, but generally spicier, lighter and less greasy. She estimated that around half the food Lulu’s served was vegetarian and vegan food also could be requested.
